Norman Doidge, MD, is a Psychiatrist, psychoanalyst and New York Times best selling author of The Brain’s Way of Healing.
In his books the Brain that Changes Itself and The Brain’s Way of Healing he describes how for the past 400 years we have thought of the brain as a machine and that the price that we have paid for its complexity is that it is fixed and unregenerative. In his groundbreaking books Doidge has turned this idea completely on its head. He explains how we have got it spectacularly wrong. He introduces us to the revolutionary concept of Neuroplasticity – whereby the brain can change, discovering new neuropathways and heal itself helping people recover from conditions such as ADD, Autism, Stroke etc.
The phenomenon of Neuroplasticity changes everything and has huge implications for children and adults alike.
In his book the Brains Way of Healing, he describes how music and more specifically, programmes like the LiFt programme impact on the brain’s neuroplasticity helping an individual to achieve their true potential. In summary, he explains how sound energy can be passed non-invasively into the ear, where it is converted into electrical patterns, that can change the structure of the plastic brain provided one understands all the fine details of how to do this.
